One of the things I’ve heard said about web development is that it’s a young person’s game. It certainly can be, but that doesn’t mean that those of us with a few gray hairs shouldn’t be continuously moving to learn new things. Sure, it’s a challenge, and it takes time, but it also gives a fresh outlook and keeps you nimble.
Sometimes it’s easy to become complacent and sit back on the laurels of past successes, using the same technologies, even keeping current with them, but bringing no new tools onboard. I think I slipped into that and was allowed myself to stagnate a bit.
I had a good long chat with a friend today about this, and have decided to take on learning AngularJS. It has immediate benefit to my current job and is a skill that will also help increase my JavaScript knowledge. I’m excited about this. I’m even more excited to be writing about it as I learn, hopefully sharing the knowledge I get and a way to track my progress and compare that to your own, if you’re learning AngularJS.
After I’m up to speed in AngularJS, I plan to take on Laravel, which is gaining huge amounts of traction as a PHP framework.
