In a nutshell, VVV uses Vagrant to get a virtual machine set up in VirtualBox that allows for quick and easy WordPress development. The number of tools included is impressive (although it does add to bloat as some critics have pointed out). You get the basics like an Ubuntu base system, PHP, a web server, a database server, and even WP-CLI. Other great tools like Git and memcache are included too.
Adding new local development WordPress environments to a single installation is relatively easy. If you do any WordPress development, VVV is worth a look, despite it’s silly complicated name.
