Shutter

Shutter is one of those tools that I love. It does one thing and one thing extremely well: screen shots. You’d be surprised how frequently screen shots of some sort are necessary in a programmer’s life. Any tool that eases that process gets my love any day of the week.

Sure most operating systems have some sort of screen shot ability built in. Those built-in tools always seem half-baked to me. Linux is certainly no exception here; but as usual, any deficiency is made up by the presence of a good tool.

Shutter allows all manner of things to be captured: screen areas, the entire desktop, menus, tooltips, individual windows and on and on. You can even do some light editing or add plugins for increased functionality.
